My name is Rebecca Williams and I have been practicing in the field of children’s mental health since 2007. I am Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW). I received my BA in psychology from the University of Northern Iowa in 2007. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2012. I worked in larger community agencies until opening Open Hearts Therapy in the fall of 2018. In 2021, I completed Endorsement® as an Infant Mental Health Specialist.

I have a wide range of experience and specialize in working with young children and adults. I have training in several evidence based and trauma informed practices including EMDR and Child Parent Psychotherapy. Currently, I am working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist. I use a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach in all of my work. In working with children, I use relationship-based approach that promotes infant and early childhood mental health. This approach extends to my work with adults because our early experiences with relationships impact our adult relationships. As a client you may expect to see a creative approach to sessions including play therapy techniques, sand tray and other methods. However, I will always use what is a best fit for you or your child.

I am a member of the Iowa Association of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, the Iowa Association of Play Therapy, and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). I am currently the Secretary of the NASW Iowa Chapter Board.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my son and two cats, Olivia and Penelope. I also enjoy baking and figuring out how to make stuff. From quilts to bottle rockets, I am always wondering “Could I do that?”.
